Piles or haemorhhoids are collection of swollen tissue mainly blood vessels,smooth muscles and elastic connective tissue.
Piles can be external or internal
- Internal piles: They are more common and occur inside the anal canal usually 2-4c.m above the anus opening
- External piles:occur outside the edge of anus
Piles usually associated.with constipation, straining during passsage of stool,taking a lot of spicy food and some familial connection also seen. They also occur during pregnancy
SYMPTOMS
Internal piles usually cause bleeding. Bleeding is painless. As the disease progresses patient also feel discomfort and pain during passsing of stool,itching and discharge around anus
Piles are of 4 degrees
First degree-They remain inside anal canal. Mainsymptom is bleeding
Second degree-Piles come out during defeacation but they go inside anal canal on their own without any effort by patient or doctor
Third degree-Pilescomes out during defecation but can be replaced back manually
Fourth degree-piles that cannot be replaced back and they are permanently.prolapsed unless some active tratment done by doctor
Treatment
DIET-patient should take diet, which is rich in fibres like whole wheat flour,green leafy vegetables,fruits and isabgol etc. Patient should also drink a lot of water
MEDICAL TREATMENT-initially laxatives are given like tripla,gulkhand
Hot sitz bath is also beneficial.
iF piles do not recover then modern doctors may opt for
a) sclerotherapy-injecting some medicines like 5%phenol in almond oil at the base of pile mass
